Two One-Act Plays:

A Sequence of Events

Written by George Macurran Green

Directed by Janet Lowe

After Midnight, Before Dawn

Written by David Campton

Directed by Carol Blake

Performed October 2004

DARK themes of witchcraft, murder and obsession made these plays, containing some superb individual performances, suitable only for an adult audience.

Sequence of Events, set in the early 1900s, involved three scenes on stage at the same time which, in less capable hands, could have caused confusion for the audience. The characters were sympathetically drawn and the actors portrayed them well with Barry Garfoot as the sober hangman, and well known Wendover entertainer Annette Burrows in a passionate portrayal as the distraught and obsessive mother Margaret Vole, to be particularly noted.

After Midnight, Before Dawn was set in the 1600s and involved six disparate characters accused of being witches, awaiting their fate. Jane Stokes as ‘girl’ gave a brilliantly animated performance, Alison Merry was quite evil as ‘calm woman’ and Ralph Newble believable as ‘Man’, becoming increasingly unhinged as he watched for dawn.

AN INTRIGUING French farce about two married couples who exchange partners and passions in an hotel setting.

Babes in the Wood
Directed by Carol Blake

A REAL romp of a pantomime with excellent performances from all age groups, colourful and full of fun, telling the well loved story of Jack and Jill who become lost in the woods, at risk of being victims of the Sheriff of Nottingham, only to be saved by Robin Hood.

Superb performances by Randal Stokes as Nurse Fanny Fettlebuttock; Lydia Pritchard as Muddles; Janet Lowe and Suzi Harris as Fred and Herbert; Geoff Brunt as the Sheriff of Nottingham; and Nick Brunt and Alison Harris as Jack and Jill.
